WE ARE LISTLESS AT TIMES BECAUSE WE ARE LISTLESS
Sounds odd? Does it? Hahahaha
(FIRST LISTLESS MEANS WITHOUT ENERGY, TIRED AND THE SECOND LISTLESS MEANS WITHOUT A LIST)
I once read this somewhere that we are listless probably also because we are not organized, because we don’t have a TO-DO-LIST, thereby at times taking us to the PANIC MODE.
Yes, using lists to reduce stress may seem somewhat vague and out of date, but lists may be one of our better time-management tools.
Making a list might help one ease up. The major issue with today's work is that it never seems finished or completed or even accomplished. There's a vast list of activities to complete that one needs to perform and even those minor open loops such as unopened emails, unfinished books to read, and commitments to follow up. All of these factors might cause subconscious tension. And the brain frantically attempts to keep up but leads to malfunctions several times.
Furthermore, most of the stress stems from striving to keep up with everything, rather than from having a great deal on one’s plate. This is why, if we're experiencing consternation, we should sit down, grab a pen, and write a list. Even if everything that we have tended to have mentioned remains incomplete, we will experience immediate relief after doing this easy activity.
By maintaining a list, we are psychologically outsourcing our duty of remembering. Outsourcing the duty of remembering to an 'external memory brain’, is an action that will allow our brain to relax a little.
Making a list restores one’s sense of control. Crossing things off the list may be a rewarding experience. It helps one feel like one did something, giving one more gratification. Furthermore, one does not have to keep track of accomplished chores.
When we cross something off our list, it's done and out of our thoughts.
Making a list helps our brain memory's tasks. Making a list of activities to perform is akin to taking notes while listening to a lecture. One must organize information and jot down the most significant elements when taking notes. Taking notes has been proven across several studies to help one filter information and retain it better than those who merely read or hear it.
THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE OF MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS ALSO—TO MAINTAIN A TO-DO LIST.
